Kent Police Update June 2013 - Sandgate, Cheriton and Morehall

On Tuesday 4th June 2013 local officers Mark Ball and Laura Zazo attended Cheriton Food & Wine in relation to a report of Theft from the store. From being a basic description of the group officers were able to quickly identify the suspects, who were stopped in Somerset Road and subsequently arrested.

Local Officers Laura Zazo and Mark Ball investigated various reports of Theft of bicycles from the Cheriton and Sandgate areas. Due to her extensive knowledge of known offenders PCSO Zazo successfully identified a group of 3 males, who were subsequently arrested.

PCSO's Laura Zazo and Mark Ball hosted their regular monthly Surgery at the venue of St Andrews Church. Local residents were able to discuss their concerns with the officers.

On Wednesday 12th June 2013 PCSO's Mark Ball and Laura Zazo attended Pent Valley Technology College where they provided security marking for mobile phones of both pupils and teachers.

Councillors, representatives from Shepway District Council and local residents joined officers Mark Ball and Laura Zazo for the new Cheriton Residents Meeting. Approx. 30 people were in attendance where a variety of issues were discussed with action points being established for the next meeting.
PCSO Mark Ball attended Cheriton Recreation Ground in relation to a report of a nuisance dog running around off lead. The owner was quickly identified and given appropriate words of advice and instructed to keep the dog under appropriate control.

Whilst conducting a routine patrol of Hawkinge Cemetery, PCSO's Mark Ball and Laura Zazo stopped and spoke with a large group of young persons who were found loitering in the area. The group was escorted from the area as a result of their conduct.

A group of males were stopped and spoken to in Morehall Recreation Ground by local Officers Laura Zazo, as a result of using abusive language. Details of the group were recorded with Officers providing relevant words of warning in relation to their conduct/behaviour.

Tasked with seizing CCTV footage from Maplins Electronics in Folkestone in relation to a report of Theft from the store, PCSO Mark Ball successfully identified the male suspect from the relevant footage. The investigation is currently on going.

Reports of Theft of Pedal Cycles and flower pots in Sandgate as well as Thefts from parked vehicles in the Cheriton area are being monitored by PCSO's Laura Zazo, Karen Tappenden, and Mark Ball. As a result targeted patrols are being conducted in:

  • Battery Point
  • Spring Lane
  • Alexandra Corniche
  • Langdon Road
  • Hawkins Road

Local officers will continue to liaise with partner agencies, local Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, shop managers and their respective teams in order to make Sandgate and Cheriton a safer place to work, live and visit.

Friday 26th July at Cheriton Library, from 4pm till 5pm Cheriton Residents Meeting - Saturday 3rd August at Cheriton Library, starting promptly at 11am Thursday 8th August at Sandgate Library, from 11am to 12noon
