Tim Prater is a Liberal Democrat Kent County Councillor for Folkestone West, and District and Town Councillor for Cheriton, sitting on Shepway District and Folkestone Town Councils. First elected to Folkestone Town Council in March 2006, the Liberal Democrats held Cheriton at the "all-out" District and Town Council elections in May 2007. Tim was elected to Kent County Council in June 2009.
Tim's Cheriton ward colleague on Shepway District Council is Peter Carroll, and on Folkestone Town Council Dhan Gurung. Peter Gane was elected as a Liberal Democrat Councillor in May 2007, but defected to the Conservatives in July 2008.
In May 2007, the Liberal Democrats took control of Folkestone Town Council, winning 11 of the 18 seats. As of June 2009, Folkestone Town Council has 7 Lib Dem Councillors, 6 Conservative, 3 People First and 2 Independents. At Shepway District, the Liberal Democrats are the official opposition, with 6 seats to the Conservatives 38.
In May 2007, Tim became the leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Folkestone Town Council, and Chair of the Liberal Democrat Group on Shepway District Council. In 2009, Tim will also be Secretary of the Shepway (Folkestone and Hythe) Liberal Democrats.
Kent County Council should admit snow response was inadequate

Folkestone West County Councillor, Tim Prater, has put a question to Kent County Council: "Will the Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Waste confirm that Kent Police had contacted KCC them to get the roads treated and that the response by Kent Highways to the snowfall on 10th / 11th February in Folkestone and surrounding areas was totally inadequate, leading to even main roads being completely impassable, cars being abandoned and road accidents."

KentTV: a decision £2 million pounds too late

Lib Dems at County Hall have welcomed the decision to pull the plug on KCC's controversial KentTV broadband channel. Conservative Council Leader Paul Carter has announced that the contract would end due to the "changed economic climate". But Trudy Dean, Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition, said the channel had cost nearly £2 million pounds and should never have been set up using taxpayers money.

"Don't try to put the blame on us" say Lib Dems at County Hall

Trudy Dean, Leader of the Lib Dem Group at Kent County Council, has called on Conservative Leader Paul Carter to retract his statement that the KCC Chief Executive's contract was extended as the result of a unanimous cross party vote involving Lib Dem and Labour Cllrs in 2006.
