2004: Lynne Beaumont and Shepway Lib Dems campaign against the proposed closure of Folkestone Post Office. The Post Office refused to listen, and under the last Labour Government closed the office and moved instead into cramped facilities in WH Smith's.

2012: After the old Post Office building has remained empty for years, it opens its doors as... the Post Collection Office. Counter services have been opened in the old Post office to allow for collection of undelivered letters and parcels, moving from an office at the rear of the building.

Lynne Beaumont, who campaigned against the old Folkestone Post Office's closure said:

"It beggars belief - a Post Office is closed, then after years of being closed, a Post Collection Office opens! How about they open some more counters now, and allow people to post things as well, and buy stamps, and other services? Like, well, a Post Office?

"How much money has actually been saved from the closure of Folkestone Post Office all those years ago? What gain did it bring? Who did it help? Little, none and no-one - in that order. What a waste."
