Cheriton and Morehall: Road & Access Schemes

Following on from improvements in Cheriton and Morehall over recent years funded by Local County Councillor Tim Prater's "Member Highways Fund" (MHF), more works are hopefully planned this year. The Members Highway Fund is an amount of money delegated to County Councillors each year to spend on works in their division - currently £25,000 per year.
Previous MHF funded works in Cheriton and Morehall include:
- New one-way system in Chart Road / Morehall Avenue
- Replacement bus shelters in Sandgate High Street and Horn Street
- New bus shelter in Weymouth Road
County Councillor Tim Prater is now working with Kent Highways on schemes to stop large lorries and HGV's using the Biggins Wood Road area as a cut through to the nearby trading estate, and also to improve the footpath / cycle way from Caesar's Way to J13 of the M20, both following requests and suggestions from local residents.
Tim Prater says:
"Both of the new schemes would be good improvements to our area.
"Biggins Wood Road is far too narrow to support large lorries. Despite requests to the Highways Agency to add more signage on the M20 to direct lorries to Shearway estate via J13, we've got no response, and will instead work on a local scheme under Kent Highways control.
"Improving the footpath from Caesar's Way would make the route not just better for current users, but done well, should offer a great off-road route from J13 of the M20 to the heart of Cheriton. We'll aim to improve signage too - its currently a useful (if overgrown, rutted and puddled!) route if you know about it, but many people don't!"
