It only took three months, but the drains in Cheriton High Street have now been cleaned...

November 3, 2010 6:00 PM

Blocked drain gully covers in Cheriton High Street reported for cleaning in July were finally cleared at the end of October.

Folkestone Councillor Tim Prater reported the gullies blocked after an inspection of drains in the road having received a number of reports of drainage problems by local residents.

The report sent on 28 July to Kent Highways Services reported:

  • 1 Gully at junction of Marler Road / Cheriton High Street - full
  • Gully outside 29 Cheriton High Street - blocked
  • Gully outside 43 Cheriton High Street - full
  • 1 Gully under Rail Bridge on Risborough Lane - partially blocked
  • Gully opposite 11 Risborough Lane - full
  • Gully outside Post office 38 Cheriton High Street - full
  • Gully outside 22 Cheriton High Street - full and blocked

The report was logged by Kent Highways the following day, but after a series of referrals to the contractor, the works were only completed on the 29th October.

Tim Prater commented:

"I'm pleased these gullies have now been cleared, but I have asked Kent Highways to investigate with their contractors how such a simple job could possibly take three months to complete. It simply isn't acceptable."
