Closure of Cheriton High Street: Investigation of Subsidence

May 21, 2010 4:17 PM
Originally published by Shepway Liberal Democrats

Kent Highway Services has been monitoring a section of carriageway in B2064 Cheriton High Street just west of the junction with Risborough Lane. It has become apparent that the carriageway is continuing to subside and voids could be forming under the road surface.

It will be necessary to carry out an investigation excavation in the road to establish the cause of the problem. Because of the nature of this work it will be necessary to close Cheriton High Street at the junction of Risborough lane. This will mean that traffic will not have access to Junction 12 (Tesco end) from the Risborough Lane junction.

Traffic able to use the motorway will be directed between junction 12 and junction 13. Non Motorway traffic will be directed via A20, Hythe and A259 to attempt to avoid unnecessary congestion in the residential area north of the Cheriton High Street.

The closure is programmed to come into effect on Tuesday 25th May at 09:30hrs, but until the extent of the void is known it is not possible to give a period that it will be closed for, but an initial period of 5 days has been stated on the advance signs on site.

Kent Highway Services apologise for the inconvenience caused and every effort will be made to minimise this disruption.
