National Primary School Offer Day

March 23, 2010 1:28 PM

There has been a rise in the number of children applying for a Kent primary school place compared to a year ago. 14,920 applications for school places were received by the January closing date - an increase of 190.

Letters from Kent County Council, offering a school for September 2010, will arrive on doormats from Tuesday morning. Families who applied online will be sent an email after 4pm today (Monday 22 March).

The majority of children (88%) were given their first choice of school. 120 more pupils have got their first choice school compared with 2009. Almost 96% have been offered a place at one of their three choices.

For those parents who have not been offered a school they had hoped for, Kent is urging them to visit the school they have been offered to speak to the teachers and get a feel for the school. This is the first part of the process and parents do have the option to go on a waiting list and lodge an appeal.

A specialist KCC team is on hand to help parents with any queries they may have. The telephone number is 01622 696565. Or they can speak to a Choice Adviser, on 01622 694073 or 01622 694065, who will be able to offer independent advice.

For more information on how to join a waiting list and/or appeal go to: www.kent.gov.uk/primaryadmissions
