County Councillor Tim bids for Morehall Avenue and Chart Road traffic changes

August 11, 2009 7:48 PM

Folkestone West County Councillor Tim Prater has started a bid under Kent County Council's Members Highway Fund to look into a scheme to create a one-way scheme in Morehall Avenue and Chart Road in Folkestone. The roads suffer badly from parking and traffic problems, especially around school times, with the roads often locking with traffic unable to pass each way.

The scheme had previously been considered by Kent County Council but had been dropped as other schemes had priority. After many requests to the Lib Dem team by local residents, Tim Prater has requested that Kent re-look at the scheme and come back with a full proposal for local residents to consider. If the scheme is affordable and local residents give it the go-ahead, it would be paid for out of a grant of £25,000 "Members Highways Fund" each County Councillor is allocated.

Tim Prater, whose Folkestone West Division covers Morehall, Cheriton and Sandgate, commented:

"The traffic problems in Morehall Avenue and Chart Road can be awful, and many local residents, and parents at Morehall School, have been calling for a scheme to make things better. I hope that Kent Highways can come up with a scheme that local residents can support, will be affordable and we can finally deal with the issue.

"I'm pleased to be one of the first to get an application in using the Members Highway Fund scheme - we now need to see if it delivers results."
